S&L 54 Leighton Buzzard 0

S&L went into this game knowing that they had to win, to get their league challenge back on track. Tom Crewe was a late call off this meant a switch in the backs, allowing Craig Findlay to come in on the wing, and Tom Cleary up to the bench.

S&L started well against what can only be described as a young and inexperienced side, Kirk Lindsay opening the scoring with an early penalty, this was followed with an early try, when a miss move in the centre saw Greg Cook burst through to send Paul Webster away for the try, this would prove to be a productive channel to run the ball through.

Pressure was showing on the Buzzard line, from a 5 mtrs. scrum John Ironmonger picked up, with help from John Robson who drove him over, Lindsay adding the extras, and 2 more penalties to move S&L 21 points clear, Buzzard by this time were chasing shadows, as they tried to combat an aggressive dominant S&L pack.

On the stroke of injury time the S&L back row took the ball forward and created space for Craig Findlay to score in the corner to nail the game for S&L.

S&L started the 2 nd half on the attack, a set move from a penalty saw John Ironmonger run unhindered under the post for another 7 points, this was followed soon after, when Andy Beattie ran the ball at the Buzzard defence, and a cheeky pass out of the back of the hand gave Milan Crooks an easy run in for another 7 points to bring up the 40 points.

Buzzard never gave up, and S&L started to lose some shape, giving away too many penalties. 4 mins into injury time, again Greg Cook burst down the outside centre channel, this time Craig Findlay was on his shoulder to take the pop pass to go under the posts.

As Buzzard were looking for the Ref to end the game, from the kick off ball set on the S&L 10 metre line Milan Crooks added his second, as his pace took him all the way from 60 metres to score, Kirk Lindsay capping a fine kicking display as he converted from the touchline, to record a personal 19 point tally, Ian Gilmour had a sound game at hooker, a position he will feature in more as the season progresses.

A sterner challenge awaits next week as they travel to Mens Own, who shared the points with Towcester this week.

2nds & 3rds had no game.
