Leicester Forest 22 S&L 15

S&L were looking to avenge a narrow home loss from earlier in the season, the weather being cold and wet, they were hoping that the conditions would not suit Forrest’s Barbadian, and South Sea Island players.

With changes from original selection, John Robson home only, Tom Crewe and Malcolm Crooks injuries, their plans took another blow when Robin Greaves was injured after 5 mins.

The visitors soaked up early pressure from Forrest and were rewarded when from a line out, Paul Webster came into the line from the blindside, his pace shredded the Forrest defence, a slick pass to other winger Craig Findlay who scored in the corner.

The S&L pack started to win quick ball, and a series of drives toward the Forrest line saw Simon Parker drive over to double the lead.

Having got to this position, S&L sat back a little, and allowed the strong running Forrest side to come back in the game, poor defensive kicking from the S&L backs, put the side under pressure, this coupled with the penalty count contrived to give the home side 10 points to tie the game up at half time.

Playing up the slope S&L were forced to defend, the S&L side were struggling to interpret the referees requirements, when a quick ball was won slick hands put the Forrest winger in for the try to take them in front for the 1st time.

Forrest continued to press the S&L 22, a poor pass in mid field was seized on by S&L skipper Milan Crooks, he hacked on, and quick ball from the ruck saw Greg Cook give the pass to put in Findlay for his 2nd try of the afternoon, to even the game up again.

Forrest hit back to score the winning points, when a loose kick allowed the Forrest winger to score, and run round under the posts to allow an easy conversion, on a day when the kickers were not at their best.
